    <p>A Safeguards Information System (SIS) is a system developed by each country participating in REDD Plus to provide information on how the Cancun Safeguards are being addressed and respected throughout the implementation of REDD Plus activities.</p>
    <h3>Key Functions of SIS</h3>
    <ul>
      <li>Providing transparent and consistent information on how safeguards are addressed and respected</li>
      <li>Supporting the monitoring and evaluation of REDD Plus activities</li>
      <li>Facilitating stakeholder participation and access to information</li>
      <li>Contributing to the Summary of Information (SOI) that parties submit to the UNFCCC</li>
      <li>Ensuring accountability and transparency in REDD Plus implementation</li>
    </ul>
    <h3>UNFCCC Requirements</h3>
    <p>Under the UNFCCC, developing country Parties implementing REDD Plus activities are required to develop a national SIS. The SIS should:</p>
    <ul>
      <li>Be consistent with the Cancun Safeguards</li>
      <li>Provide information on how all the safeguards are addressed and respected</li>
      <li>Be transparent and flexible to allow for national circumstances</li>
      <li>Be established at the national level</li>
      <li>Build upon existing systems, where appropriate</li>
    </ul>
