Malaysia's Safeguards

Malaysia has developed its own safeguards framework aligned with national circumstances and the Cancun Safeguards.

Malaysia's approach to safeguards is built on existing national policies, legal frameworks and institutional arrangements. The Malaysia Safeguards Information System (MY-SIS) provides a platform for transparent reporting on how the Cancun Safeguards are being addressed and respected in the national context.

Malaysia's safeguards framework aligns with existing national policies, including the National Forestry Policy, National Policy on Biological Diversity, and relevant legislation.

Indigenous & Community Rights

Recognition and protection of indigenous peoples' and local communities' rights through existing legal frameworks and customary land tenure systems.

Mechanisms for stakeholder consultation, public participation and transparent governance in forest management and REDD+ implementation.

Commitment to conservation of natural forests, biodiversity enhancement, and addressing risks of reversals and emission displacement.
